About the course
The QA Level 4 Award in Immediate Life Support (ILS) is a nationally recognised qualification for people who need to provide emergency care to patients as part of their job.
This includes:
- event medical providers
- emergency ambulance staff
- registered healthcare professionals
- people in specialist roles within the emergency services and military
The course teaches you how to provide immediate life support to patients who are in cardiorespiratory arrest or have a life-threatening illness or injury.
What's covered in the course?
The ILS course covers:
- scene management: methods and procedures for assessing and managing an incident
- patient care: managing patients with life-threatening or non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries
- airway management
- immediate life support procedures:
- return of spontaneous circulation (RoSC)
- patient handovers
- modifications during cardiac arrestfor:
- third trimester pregnancy
- neck stoma
- immediate life support treatment algorithm
- end of life care
- using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS)
