About this course

This course is a regulated qualification that helps you or your staff learn how to deal with first aid emergencies at work.

Having the right first aid cover in a workplace is not just a legal requirement, it is also essential for the safety of all staff.

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 state that all employers must make sure their employees get immediate attention if they are injured or become ill at work.

This includes carrying out a risk assessment, having enough first aiders, and giving them appropriate training.

Who is this course for?

This course is for people who want to be a first aider in their workplace.

The course meets all the requirements set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

It is a regulated qualification, which means employers can be confident they are meeting their legal responsibilities for providing high quality first aid training.

You may need this course if you work in one of the following roles:

  • Security guards and door supervisors
  • Personal licence holders
  • Teachers
  • Factory or offshore workers
  • Bus, transport, taxi, or minicab drivers
  • Low-risk outdoor pursuit instructors
  • Martial arts, boxing, or sports coaches
  • Police and fire service (non-tactical)
  • Bar and restaurant staff

What you will learn

The course will teach you essential skills to give emergency first aid and to manage a range of injuries and illnesses.

You will learn about:

  • the role of a first aider
  • how to assess an incident
  • managing an unresponsive person
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using a defibrillator
  • the recovery position
  • heart attacks and strokes
  • choking
  • epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes
  • anaphylaxis and shock
  • head, spinal, and chest injuries
  • wounds and bleeding
  • fractures, sprains, strains, and dislocations
  • minor injuries, burns, and scalds
  • poisoning and eye injuries
